Dystopian Rhapsody

Dystopian Rhapsody

For four years, Rodrigo Koraicho photographed his way through São Paulo, constructing a kaleidoscopic investigation of the visual and social dichotomies of contemporary urban life. Dystopian Rhapsody unfolds from this prolonged encounter with the city — a place where ideals of modern progress have decayed into entropy, and where the boundaries between center and periphery, private and public, beauty and decay remain constantly blurred. Dive into the world of the city’s unconscious, where photography and written poetry hold hands to unfold its raw intensity, overlapping realities, and dense atmospheres.

Rather than seeking order or the city’s most recognizable images, the photographs trace the discontinuities that define everyday life: fragments, repetitions, and alignments that surface only through persistence. Many times, the photographs linger on what the city tends to erase, revealing the incongruities of urban polarities, the allure of consumerism, unrealized dreams, and the creativity that emerges in response to adversity. Each photograph resists the hasty interpretation of the contemporary gaze, translating the act of walking and writing into a continuous act of inquiry.

Composed as a visual and poetic rhapsody, the project navigates the tensions between photography and text as expression and movement — mediums that both carry and ask for a slowdown. What emerges is not a document of São Paulo, but an open cartography built from its fractures: a reflection on today’s society and the subtle forms of resistance that endure amid the excess of the modern city.
